Rangel joins Aury Cruz in the 30-Point Club
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 13, 2019 – Mexican Andrea
Rangel became the second player ever to score 30 or more
points in a single match in the NORCECA Women’s Continental
Championship since the Volleyball Information System (VIS)
was implemented in 2001.
Rangel score 30 points in the victory of Mexico 3-1 (25-20,
25-20, 17-25, 25-22) over Cuba that earned the winners the
last ticket to the NORCECA Tokyo 2020 Qualification
Tournament next January in Santo Domingo.
Rangel joined Puerto Rican Aury Cruz in the exclusive
30-point club of the NORCECA Continental event which is
disputed every two years.
Cruz twice has scored 32 points in a match, both times in
five-set losses to the Dominican Republic. First on
September 27 of 2009 and then exactly six years later on
September 27 of 2015.
The announcement was made by Roosevelt Comarazamy, director
of communications of NORCECA from Santo Domingo.
The sides to compete in the four-team qualifier are Canada,
Puerto Rico, Mexico and Dominican Republic.
